Managing PARTNER – MARK WASHO
The Columbia S.C. Professional Soccer Alliance has retained one of the pioneers of professional soccer, FSE Founding Partner, Mark Washo to bring integrity, professionalism and a wealth of past experiences to our organization as our Managing Partner to guide our journey.
Mark was one of the original hires with DC United at the inception of Major League Soccer (MLS) back in 1996. DC United has been recognized for setting the standard in MLS. Mark then went on to Senior Executive positions with the NY/NJ Metrostars (now Red Bull NY) and Chicago Fire where he was part of the management team that opened TOYOTA PARK, one of the first soccer specific stadiums in America. As his career progressed, he has direct experience working directly in or with all of the US professional soccer leagues, including the MLS, WPS, NWSL, NASL, USL and NISA, spanning 30 years. As an executive involved since the inception of professional soccer in America, very few soccer executives have his level of extensive hands-on experience and intimate knowledge in American Soccer!
Mark Washo is also an early advocate for women’s professional soccer, ahead of the time. Mark led the Washington Freedom as team President and General Manager for three seasons (one season in transition to a new owner). He also organized the Celebration of Women’s Soccer event after WPS folded and before the creation of NWSL when there was an absence of women’s professional soccer. This event which drew close to 3000 fans, was “ghost shopped” by the future owner of the Washington Spirit, validating interest in women’s soccer and inspiring the formation of the NWSL! Mark was also involved with the Washington Spirit since the club’s inception as an outsourced sales agency for the organization, but also as a key consultant.
Mark’s roots in women’s professional soccer make him a valuable asset for our women’s team!
